Five Fabulous Coatigans

No…we don’t like portmanteau words any more than you do. We still baulk a bit at ‘brunch’ and we’re going nowhere near ‘shacket’! However, we have a small place in our heart for the coatigan since it’s just so…autumnal! Half-coat and half-cardigan, it’s the perfect transitional item and it comes in many different guises as you’ll see today as we pick out our five favourites.

QED London Fluffy Coatigan

Fluffy Blue Coatigan – £35 (was £50), QED London

QED London’s coatigan is fun, funky and puts us in mind of a ’70s pencil case with its fuzzy finish and electric blue hue. Made from super-soft-touch fake fur, this collarless piece fastens at the neckline with a hook and eye fastening and quite brilliantly has a zip all the way around the centre…which means you can enjoy it in two lengths! Versions in grey, black, pink, white and sky and navy blue are available as well as this cobalt version – and all of them are currently on sale at fifteen quid off the original price!

Hobbs Penelope Coatigan in Navy/Grey

Penelope Coatigan in Navy and Grey – £111.20, Hobbs

Travel through autumn in style and don the Hobbs Penelope Coatigan which is made from a soft wool blend. A longline design, it has two generously-sized patch pockets and a simple open neckline. However, what sets it apart from the crowd is the fact it’s been divided into two – below the waist it’s grey and above the waist it’s navy blue, and this extends across the sleeves as well. This one will go just as well with jeans, T-shirt and trainers as it will over a formal frock, so dress it up and down as you please.

Made For Walking: Chukka Boots

To be honest, we have trouble distinguishing some of them from desert boots, but chukka boots  – which are thought to have derived their name from the game of polo – are ankle-high suede or leather boots with open lacing with two or three pairs of eyelets. So…a bit like desert boots! Still, we’re happy to take them as described by their manufacturers and, in that spirit – here are our five favourite currently-available pairs of chukka boots:

Jeffery West Yardbird Chukka Boots

Yardbird Chukka Boots – £220, Jeffery West

Okay, so this is definitely not a desert boot… We’re happy to present the Yardbird chukka boot from Jeffery West. From a company that prides itself on providing daring footwear for the modern dandy, these beautiful boots have a pointed toe, a traditional lace-up fastening and feature classic brogue detailing to the front on a contrasting toe section (matching the back) that contrasts with the darker brown shiny leather of the main boot.

Dune Murray Blue Two Toned Lace Chukka Boots
